Encounters and ceramics at La Campaneta

A disused ceramics factory gets a second life through photography, drawing, models and games.

The disused Campaneta ceramics factory had remained a symbol for the town of Onda, in Spain. Rather than demolish it, the Grupo Aranea practice invited residents to reclaim the place through photography, drawing, plans, models and even games.

Before construction began, the site reopened to give the public a different experience of it: participatory workshops, art installations and play sessions for young people. During a workshop in Alicante led by Grupo Aranea, Paco Leiva and Agata Alcaraz, Alice Stevens and Laure Demellier created an interactive model, a board game based on the shapes of the site and ceramics workshops. These sessions with young people covered the history of the place, the plans for its future and the design process.

The old factory became a place to meet and have fun: La Campaneta found a second life.
