A Bestiary of Lassay Landscapes
Creatures born from the history and imagery of Lassay-les-Châteaux, painted in ink for an exhibition and a sale of prints.
What creatures lurk in the medieval village of Lassay-les-Châteaux? These figures emerged from in-depth research into local history and imagery. Coats of arms, paintings, places and animals blend into a unique whole that captures the village’s landmark sites.
The Mayenne leopard meets the caduceus of Lassay, shining like the moon. Pissaro turns into a dragon, heralding dusk above the pond, while the woods reveal the ruins of the Château de Bois-Thibault, where a griffin’s song echoes. Drawing on medieval conventions, the images celebrate Lassay’s ever-present vegetation and give these local chimeras a fitting setting.
Created to be shown at the Sous nos mains designers’ shop, and reproduced as postcards and posters, these works invite a dreamlike new look at the local landscape.
