Douceur Power
An exhibition of inks and watercolours about the gentleness and simplicity of a woman’s everyday life, shown at several venues in Mayenne.
“Douceur Power” (the power of gentleness) is Alice Stevens’s first official exhibition. Its subjects are more personal and intimate: these watercolours and inks capture the gentleness and simplicity of a woman’s daily life. Often overlooked and equated with weakness, gentleness in fact takes great strength to preserve and to share with those close to us.
Nature plays a large part in these works. Trees and bunches of flowers appear often, built from watercolour blots and then reworked with Indian ink and coloured pencils. Together they offer a soft yet powerful take on plant motifs, so present in the daily life of an artist and landscape architect.
The seventeen works on paper were shown at the Robert-d’Arbrissel museum in the Abbey of La Roë (three months, summer 2024), at “Sous l’Écorce”, an artist’s studio in Lassay-les-Châteaux (six months), at the Café du garage in Olivet (three months) and then at the Château des Arcis in Meslay-du-Maine (two months).
